House calls
The ABC hit "Desperate Housewives" is getting a new face. Bob Newhart, 75, confirmed with Ellen DeGeneres on Thursday's airing of her talk show that he has joined the "Housewives" cast. Newhart will play the father-in-law of Teri Hatcher's character in a reoccurring role in eight episodes. Newhart, who's originally from the Windy City, was part of an all-Chicago-themed edition of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." While taping a show segment earlier this month at the Chicago Auto Show, DeGeneres randomly invited 200 Chicagoans to fly to Burbank to be in the audience for the special show, including restaurateurs Dick and Sharon Portillo, who brought the famous hot dogs and chocolate cake served at the restaurant chain that bears their last name.

And at the end of the show he'll wake up next to Suzanne Pleshette and claim the whole show was all a dream.
Sadly, she died a while back..a very fine actress..
According to imdb, she is still alive.
sorry, brain fart...my bad..I was thinking of her role on "the Birds" she died on film..
She's still alive
That was a great movie! Scared the heck out of me when I was little!
I agree. Bob Newhart has always been associated with decent family comedy and it is unfortunate that he joins all the sleeze at this point in his career. Like you I also hope this show tanks right along with a lot of other ones.
T.V. has gotten so bad that even the commercials are offensive.
Bob Newhart's one-sided phone conversations are among the greatest comedic acts ever!!
gee, the guy is seventy five years old. If the producers are will to pay him, he wants to do the work, why not let the guy run cavort in thge nude with the starlets? Maybe he'll get his good buddy Don Rickels to join the cast.
And I'll then have two more reasons not to watch the show :-)
