You know my mother warned me about stuff like this.

What the heck is wrong with these people??? He didn't shoot the rubber band (according to the article), he just threw it on the teacher's desk. What are we going to expel students for next time?? Rolling your eyes at the teacher?? Scratching your head when you don't know the answer to a question?? What is wrong with these panty-waisted wimps called teachers today?? In my day, the teachers had a forehand with a paddle that would make a pro tennis player proud. And they didn't go off the deep end because of minor stupid stuff. THROWING A RUBBER BAND ON THE TEACHER'S DECK IS ASSAULT??? Get a grip.

Robert Gomez, a seventh-grader at Liberty Middle School, said he picked up a rubber band at school and slipped it on his wrist. Gomez said when his science teacher demanded the rubber band, the student said he tossed it on her desk.

that just doesn't sound right. methinks there is a child not telling the whole truth here.

To think this was a level four offense - What is a level 5, assault by a paper clip?

So...what was the school thinking of leaving literally boxes of these "dangerous weapons" laying around. I bet every teacher has many of these weapons in various calibers in their desk drawers. I see them all left by careless paperboys in people's driveways all over my neighborhood! I hear some clever delinquents have figured out they can get them from balsa plane kits at 7-11 so they will have to keep them behind the counter...

Let's put this in perspecting. I got 3 days for saying "F#$k This" in response to a weak detention I got. It was dumb and I fully admit that I deserved that one.

Hell, I used to shoot hornets with rubber bands. (tightly folded pieces of paper)

WTF!!??
A rubber band a weapon? This is insane. Are pens and pencils next on the list of weapons? what about books? what about notebooks? Heck ANYTHING can be considered a wepon by the schools these days.
I don't think I could make it in the modern school system. My key chain was a full sized climbing carbiner, would that be a weapon these days?

My neighbor friends and I never had so much fun as when my big brother was a paperboy. Publisher gave him bags of ammo! It was awesome! Best part was that the government didn't run around trying to save me from myself. And my folks didn't sue anybody when I got a welt on my cheek, either.
