Mike was born and raised in Philadelphia. His parents, lifelong railroad employees, spent a portion of their youth on welfare. He is grateful that the Federal Government was able to provide his parents “a bridge to a brighter future”. Mike’s parents were particularly active in the union movement and impressed upon him at an early age that “there is nothing more sacred than a man or woman’s time and labor.”
Mike was the first in his family to attend college and also the first to become a doctor. He strongly believes that education is “the great equalizer of society”.
Mike attended New York University and received his undergraduate degree in Philosophy. He received his medical degree from Hahnemann University and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Arizona.
