A family on the west side wants justice, claiming their neighbor poisoned their dog with anti-freeze.
The Ashley family said goodbye to their golden retriever Elvis Wednesday night before he was put to sleep after suffering from anti-freeze poisoning.
Police say 54-year old Nathan Alan Neal admitted to standing on a chair and pouring anti-freeze next to Elvis dog house.
Neal could face up to five years in jail and a $10,000 dollar fine if found guilty of animal cruelty.
Get a rope.
No reason?
Yup. I am glad my neighbors are so afraid of my dogs that they won't even come near the fence, much less get in my yard. I always worry about anti-freeze, though, as I have a dog that would rather drink out of mud puddles in the driveway than his water bowl, which always worries me. Not sure what the attraction is...does anyone else know?
I heard that anti-freeze has a sweet taste that some dogs and cats are attracted to.
It's got a sweet smell.
Anti freeze tasted sweet to dogs. In Albuquerque we have a law that all anti freeze sold have a bittering agent in it to discourage dogs drinking it. The law went through after a particularly nasty dog poisoning.
Poisoning a golden retriever is excessively cruel. A chihuahua - particularly the ones who yap all day, 'round the clock - now that's another matter. I wonder if this fellow would mind paying a visit to my neighbor's house.
The article doesn't say why the man did it, but I can tell you there have been plenty of nights I've been laying in my bed dreaming up undetectable ways to kill my neighbors dogs because they bark all night. I'd probably get caught if I used my rifle, but perhaps a poison hamburger. People who choose to own pets(especially those who live in the city) have a responsibility to keep their pets under control and reasonably quiet.
A rope is a bit severe. Give Dad a baseball bat and two minutes of privacy with Mr. Neal.
You are correct to be po'ed about dogs barking all night, I hope you can get help from the police or the city somehow. We all know how taking the law into your own hands can cost you dearly, and murdering someone's dog is not the answer. I once yelled at the top of my lungs "Shut your F%$#@in' dog up" out my window, and I heard a door open and did not have any further problems with an old dog in my 'hood. Good luck! There must be other people in your area that are as peeved as you are...
