I don't understand how you think welfare has made people poorer though

The welfare system linked to the social security system is the centerpiece of the liberal cause.

It is very human to want to help people who are less fortunate than one's self. Many make the choice to do this with their own direct contributions of money and effort.

The argument is with forced contributions of money; effort can't be forced without a police state and even then is impractical.

In 1986, the amounts received via income and payroll taxes equaled the aggregate payouts to social security and welfare programs. All other government function were financed with other means of taxation. This means that the payroll and income taxes are for the sole purpose of financing the welfare programs in this country.

Those programs are socialist in nature. Socialism does not work, and it cannot work when applied in the medium of human nature. Frederik Bastiat wrote piece about this called "The Law" after the socialist revolution in France. Every single point in that book is being seen happening here, today.

When people can provide themselves largess from public funds, they will. When others see that they are, they will say to themselves, "Why should I work when I can get the same thing by not working?"

Read Bradford's diary, he who ran the Plymouth colony in the formation days of America. The Mayflower corporation specified a system of all work and all draw equally from the results of that work.

The Plymouth colony almost failed, in close proximity to the bounty of the land and the ocean because less people chose to work and more chose to feed off the largess of those who did. The colony was saved when Bradford junked that system and assigned land and property to each family to be developed and used by that family, leaving the slackers to their own devices.

This is American history. It is a prime example of how socialist programs do not work, and answers your question. The whole colony became poor, and almost perished, because of welfare.

Contributors to each welfare and social security recipient is down to three. More and more aggregate federal and state taxes must be taken from each producer to support each non-producer. Many now pay 40% of their entire yearly production to support these slackers, with more slackers on the horizon.

Not many years will pass before the quality of life for the producers will be at the same level of non-producers. Can you see the direction this is headed? Poverty for all, and increasing government control on individual lives to stem the rebellious swellings across the country, which swellings are already rapidly developing.

We must see open rebellion, and its impact on the quality of life of all, or open state tyranny, and its impact on the quality of life for all.

This process may not be thought in so many words in the minds of conservatives, but the gut realization is there and fuels what you call "hate" directed towards liberals.

Hope this helps your understanding.

I'm saving your post, it explains to me my own beliefs in conservatism vs socialism, and the destruction of society socialism causes, clearly and succintly. AND it will be perfect to explain this position to some of my younger relatives who are still on the "searching" path.
