Boy hospitalized after being attacked by pit bull

The boy somehow managed to slip outside while his grandmother was cleaning the house. That's when the attack happened.

ABC13 Eyewitness News

(02/16/05 - MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX) — Deputies are searching for a pit bull that attacked a two-year-old child in southern Montgomery County.

The boy was attacked right outside his home and he's now being treated for several bites.

Investigators say the only eyewitness to the attack notified the child's grandmother and then disappeared. Based on a description, animal control picked up a pit bull nearby, but the child's grandmother says it's not the right dog.

"That wasn't what we were looking for because we had been told they hadn't seen the dog of the attack, so we were quite confused. We decided to hold the dog as a quarantine anyway," said Kelli Copeland with the Montgomery County Animal Shelter.

Investigators believe neighbors tracked down the actual dog involved in the attack and killed it. Animal control officials want to find its remains so it can be tested for rabies.

If you know what happened to the dog, you're asked to call the Montgomery County Animal Shelter at 936-942-7738.

How many more children have to die or be injured by Pit-bulls before we finally take a stand against these dangerous and unpredictable dogs.
