13/02/2005 14:19 - (SA)
Bangkok - A pitbull terrier bit a 13-month-old baby boy to death and severely malled the child's grandmother when she tried to rescue the infant, news reports said on Sunday.
Pitak Thngkert, nicknamed "Leo", died of a severed jugular hours after the attack on Friday night in a cramped government housing flat in Bangkok, said The Nation newspaper.
Daranee Masathian, the boy's grandmother, were bitten on the legs, hand and neck.
A neighbour rescued the grandmother by beating the dog unconscious, and even in this condition it refused to release her leg from its jaws.
The dog's owner, the dead boy's uncle, said he had kept the beast in their flat because his own was being refurbished.
Over the past two decades it has become fashionable in Thailand to own foreign dog breeds, many of which are poorly suited to the country's hot climate and lack of roaming space. - Sapa-dpa

07/11/2003 19:20 - (SA)
Johannesburg - A KwaZulu-Natal man was mauled by his pitbulls in Margate before his wife shot two of them on Friday, e.tv news reported.
The man was rescued by his neighbours and later taken to the nearest hospital, where his leg was amputated.
The man's family has vowed not to breed any pitbull terriers in future, reported e.tv.
Good thing they had a gun to protect them from the dog they had to protect them. ;^)
Are you on some kind of "pit bull alert network"?
If a Pit Bull in Peoria so much as lets loose a fat, Google will know about it.
err, fart. you get the point. LOL.
I was camping last summer and at one of the neighborhing campsites in the middle of the night I heard what sounded like a tremendous dogfight going on. Turned out that there was only one dog - a pitbull - that was mauling its owner.
People who keep these things are future Darwin award recipients for sure.
