A Red-headed Woodpecker is one of the most recent additions to my yard. I saw a Pileated Woodpecker last week. There are several Downy, Snowy and Red-bellied Woodpeckers also.

I just love Pileated woodpeckers! We had them in the woods growing up in PA. Here in DC, there are a few on Roosevelt Island, where I go running. They make the most horrible noise though - like a machine gun! Scared the daylights out of me one day when one went off right over my head.

Thanks for the ping to #90. I'm glad to hear that you've seen the elegant Red-Headed WP; I haven't seen them since my youth in Ar and I understand that their numbers have been in decline for years now. I have one regular R-B WP and a pair of quite tame Downies that visit regularly, though. They fancy nuts and peanut butter.
I've had a wider diversity of birds this winter than in the previous 10 yrs here in Texas.
