Beer has cost me a job or two over the years as well.
The boss doesn't like it when you call in sick, get drunked up and forget you called in already and call in sick for a second time.

I don't drink anymore but there are still plenty of stories to tell. I called in once and said I couldn't come in because "I got a bone in my leg".
They wrote that one down.
