A friend and I were talking today about the future of our culture. It seems most Democracys around the world have adopted a nanny state mentality.
Is this a natural evolution of freedom? Is this evolution inevitable? I'm just curious to see what you guys think about this question.
The Road To Serfdom.
From the article: ""Bork said until the Senate is more densely populated with Republicans able to appoint judges who favor strict interpretations of the law and the Constitution, the trend toward global judicial activism will continue on its current trajectory.
I dont see any present prospect of stopping what is taking place, he said""
If Judge Bork has no solution - I am sure I don't!
The problem, as I see it, is our Colleges and Universities where parents and citizens have no vote or decision in the hiring of the likes of Ward Churchill and the demonic ideas they are planting in our kids' psyches.
We have been far too trusting in our other institutions - witness: pedophile priests, abortion "doctors", unionized teachers and Hollywood celebrity influence.
Once upon a time..........................ahh the good old days.
I belive Uncle Sam still has plenty of ole P*ss and Vinegar in him yet. We're fighting the good fight and right now we're doing alright. The trick is to stay focused, work hard, and give a bit more than we take out of the system.
I'm an optimist and I'm used to winning. And I know I'm not alone. All you have to do is look around this board.
Read my response in 23.
Positive pondering is preferable.......and patriotic.
Thank God for you and like-minded p**s & vinegars.
Sliding? I think "plummeting" would be a more accurate word.
We are a Republic. A lynching mob is a Democracy.
Is there a place where you guys discuss these types of questions? I enjoy turning Freepers loose on a cold winter day, and watching them work like fine brittanys ;)

General/Chat
All non-sourced non-news threads are posted here. This doesnt mean your one thought is a thread by itself. Lately, we have been seeing articles posted that should be comments made on the main article. Your comment/vanity article will be pulled or moved to General/Chat. Vanities should be limited to the mission of Free Republic.
"Is this a natural evolution of freedom?"
No. Freedom is freedom. What Democracy's have become is lazy and irresponsible. We want someone else to carry the load. THere is precious little self-dicipline and maturity in the world today. Everything is sex, violence and victimhood. That has nothing to do with freedom, in fact, it's the antithesis, because it enslaves us and robs us of our freedom.
What does the average conservative Canadian or French or German citizen do now? Do they have any hope at all for the future? What is the logical end to this road?
The one thing I always tell my kids is that many of their peers I have met seem to be lazy and not too bright, so I think that gives the others a great opportunity to succeed. But this will only be true until the lazy and not too bright get a working majority. As it seems they have in many countries. I must admit, however, that the rise of the new media has given me some hope.
