Journey had an awesome sound. A great combination of players...period.

The group UFO also had Awesome clasical gutair:
"Try Me"
"Proffesion of violence"

And "Lady Starlight" by Scorpions has gutair playing that sends chills down my spine.

Umm, Neil Young was quite well known for instrumentalist tracks. The shocker is that he's #86 while hs own frickin' band mate is in the 30s.

Thank you. I've already expressed the same sentiments about the same people (except Vito Brata).

But in much smaller font size.

But, then again. YOu're right.

THIS LIST IS CRAP!

Of all time? Les Paul, Tal Farlow, George Van Epps, Cliff Gallup, Scotty Moore, Jeff Beck, Phil Manzanera, Jimi (of course), Hubert Sumlin (sp?). Obscure pick: Bruce Anderson of MX-80 Sound, a guitarist with his own unique sound.

In defense of Johnny Ramone: he started a complete style of guitar. That first Ramones LP really had the shock of the new at the time.

Odd note to self: lots of guys named "Steve." One guy even named Steve twice. (Steve Stevens.)

Consider what I've said about Johnny Ramone:
He is to guitar chops what Nietszche is to philosophy.
(Yeah, I know. 2 demerits for using Nietszche and the Ramones in the same concept.)

You may be right, but I'm willing to give him a pass for being influental on a huge scale. The Ramones July 4, 1976 concert in England kickstarted punk rock in the UK. And if chops are the only criteria, then it's Les Paul and only Les Paul on my list!

I wasn't meaning to dismiss Johnny. I think many philosophy professors would list Nietszche as a great philosopher, and he is too readily dismissed as a characature of what he actually meant to say. Just as Nietzche reminded philosophers of the limits of rationalism, Johnny Ramone reminded musicians what rock'n'roll is supposed to be about. That's no faint praise!

It is merely meant as an explanation for why it is easy to dismiss Johnny.

Or Nancy Wilson of Heart. I never got the chance to see them in concert, but I heard they put on a really show.

Nancy rocks. Heart did a full-blown tour last summer/fall and, at age 50, she can still do a mean high leg kick.
