Add mine to the Knopfler vote. His versatility is unmatched.
Eh...an 'ok' list at best.
>> Obviously rock slanted...no Doc Watson, Tony Rice, Norman Blake, Tommy Emmanuel, Django...lotta others. <<
Well, duh. ;^). (I mean that in an elbow-in-the-ribs way.) That the article is about rock guitarists is implicit since it is Rolling Stone. Like "Best Outfielders" in "Baseball Weekly" isn't going to be about cricket or field hockey players.
Did Danny Partridge make it?
Heh...but I'm proudly posting without reading the full article or clicking the link!
I'm good at that...
And besides, I'm right and they're wrong!
Randy Rhodes. Thought she was a talk show chick on Err-America.
HOLY CRAP!
You're right! No SLASH?!
I don't care what anyone says, Slash was the most dominant guitarist of his day, bar none! Come ON people. He wasn't just an awesome player, he also wrote riffs that rivaled the melody for control of the songs. Is there anyone who ever listened to rock in the last 20 years who can't immediately recall every last note of "Sweet Child o' Mine"?
And he's no mere hair-metal guy. He now plays classical guitar and jazz, and is quite awesome in both styles.
>> That's a good list, but where are Josey and the Pussycats? <<
They got caught synching their instruments on Saturday Night Live.
Hey I think even Jonny Lang @ 16 yo. could bump some on that list.
Even the tambourinist? Dayum.
I think the problem is that the selectors thought "Yngwie" was someone's scrabble hand. :^)
Santriani anyone?
How does Hedrix keep getting rated so high? He has about 4-5 of the same licks he hits over and over.
Rhodes and Van Halen should be higher Top 5. Angus Young from AC/DC ( not counting his AC/DC hit songs ) is really talented.
Hey what was Archie, "chopped liver?"
Carney Wilson (top left) Ross Perot (right) and John Kerry (top, next to right) were in a band together?
Nope, Just ink! :-)
ROTFL.
That one wedged itself between the armour plates.
Hey, cool!
John Cusack on drums!
Steve Morse....of the Dixie Dregs....if you don't know him you don't good guitar.
