I think rope halters are the best - makes a great impromptu hackamore in a pinch, especially with the reinforced nose like the one you linked to. I sometimes bareback ride with one by tying off the 12' lead rope in the middle to turn it into reins.

Yeah, he's got Two Eyed Jack, Zippo Pat Bars, Watch Joe Jack, and some Poco Bueno on up there a few generations back. Got a real good disposition and a quick learner. First time I swung a rope off his back, he didn't budge.
