Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Is it your horse due at the end of Feb, the next one in line? I have a friend who has 3 mares all due in 3 weeks!

I don't mind her posting at all.

My mare is due between the 25th of February and the 5th of March. I think she's the first one due here on the board now.

I think you were all talking about a webcam? I was preoccupied a bit with worrying about Sugar : )
It would be great to have that set up, you could be updating us and we could all be having sleepless nights watching the cam too! : D

We are working on it. I was thinking today that if we got it set up, I could give you all my telephone number, you guys could take shifts watching her and call me when you saw her go down. What do you think?

Fantasized "Farah" is the one that's due. She's the mare I worry about the most. I think she's diabetic although no one agrees with me, including the vets.

She is always very weak when she foals. She had two foals before I got her, the first one fell in a ditch and drowned and she fell on the second one and broke his leg (he is fine now though). She's had two foals since I got her in 1996. I was present for both of them (she seems to wait for me) and my neighbor and I both times were busy pulling the foal out of the way and drying the mare. Giving her warm water and keeping her down until she recovered a little.

Breeding her is a constant arguement here. She has beautiful foals but I worry myself sick.

I hope and pray she does ok this time. I think with any animal, whether its a dog/cat/sheep/ or horse, its natural to worry. DJ doesnt worry about anything, he says its butting into Gods business, but I am a born worrier and God made me that way. : )

I just have mostly seen mares standing over foals, and wondered if he was gender-confused.

Remember I mentioned that somehow I got on a baby list and I keep getting samples? Today I I got this baby calendar. It would be so cute to take monthly pictures and do a foal calendar.
