*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

REally. Somethings getting mine too. The golden polish is gone:(.I've been letting the dogs in at night because of the cold. I think the coyotes have figured that out.

But I am getting 6 eggs everyday.

I really like that golden polish, But I have one of his babies so that will have to do. I am still getting 9 to 12 a day depending on the weather.

In broad daylight we watched an owl try and take off with a full grown hen! That was very noisy and quite a sight! Dont know what the owl was doing out in the day time though. We get about 8 eggs a day at the moment, I love my chickens, we clip their wings, but they still make themselves at home all over the yard! : D They are also good at "cleaning" up after the horses! : )

I've got a question.

My daughter who use to post here as Superdoot, is wanting to start posting again. The thing is she has forgotten her password, AND they have changed servers on their computer, so their e-mail address has changed. The form you fill on on here just askes for the e-mail address you signed up with. How should she go about getting that password.

Most of my chickens just started laying about 4 months ago because my flocked got wiped out by the dogs. I loved how they scatter the manure it makes things easier.

Sorry to hear you got wiped out. Our friend had the same thing happen, fortunatly we had plenty and could get him restarted. We have about 34, including 5 noisy ( dont know the time) roosters.

Years ago we had a rooster that use to roost on some side panels we had on our pickup. It really aggravated my husband as the rooster really left a mess on the top of the truck:)

Anyway one night when Mack was sitting here at the computer he heard some awful sqawking. He looked out there and there was an owl and this rooster fighting and rolling around in the yard. The rooster managed to get away and ran up under the porch. After that night he NEVER roosted on that truck again. He always went under the porch and he went to roost about 4:00 in the afternoon.

It was really funny.

I guess that was a lesson well learnt! All of ours have a hen house but one has decided to roost on the swing set in the middle of the yard.
During the day they lay eggs on the trailer where the cats sleep, you go there and there are cats and chickens laying together with the dog at one end. Strange lot! Dont know why we built nesting boxes!

I just talked to my daughter. I had to tell her about your mare having her foal. But mostly about Emma, and they way she told us. I still think that was the best part of the whole night. Her posts almost made me cry:) Jenny thought that was cute too.
