The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FOUR

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Previous threads:

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!
The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

It's so cool to watch them. Belle was laying on her chest, head up. And Dot was behind her. She kept turning and looking back there. I went in real quiet. I was told to make sure the bag was clear of the foals nose. While I was moving it around, that is when Belle made that sound, like a tractor starting. I think that was the first time she really KNEW there was a baby back there. It was cool. But they stayed that way, I'm sure for 30 minutes or so. It took Dot awhile to nurse. I was really starting to get concerned. Jenny and I finally steadied her a bit to help. Belle did great for a first time momma.

About taking pictures, I was thinking of that. I think about a month before I'll start taking some of Belle at night so she gets use to the flash. We have lights out there, but I think it will still flash. If it really seems to bother her then I won't do it then. But something I might work on ahead of time.

That was my thought as I watched it - I'm so glad Bob managed to catch her, I'd have be swearing at him and the mare if he hadn't.

If there is some light, we might try seeing if you can turn the flash off without ending up with too-slow shutter speed. we can lighten pictures if they aren't too bad

That is a great idea, that way you may be able to get her accustomed to it.

When I was taking that picture of Sarah Lees eye I didn't think it would flash much in the barn but it did. She kind of trembled and I felt bad. I didn't mean to but I flashed it right in her eye.
