The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FOUR

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Previous threads:

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - thread ONE
The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!
The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

That is an awesome pic! My one gelding will sometimes let me curl up with him in his stall but I've never seen any of ours lay down outside, much less let me approach them that way.

It was a great rare moment to have work when there was someone there to take the picture. I had done it before with Bay, but I was really worried the pony would get up and disrupt the whole show...

Hey, am I reading this right? Did it really only take us 30 days on thread 3 to go thru 5000 posts?

Good morning.

Speaking of halters, any of you guys ever use a rope halter? They're my favorite type.

Count me in, I love to talk horses. I will post a pic of my bay Missouri Foxtrotter as soon as I find out how to do it.

And Bay does... He also will enjoy a good roll after a trail ride if there's a place to let him do it, before loading in the trailer. It's a good way for them to cool off and get rid of the itches of a ride. If we are gonna be hanging out awhile I try to take him somewhere to roll, so he doesn't get the wild idea to drop and roll tied.

I have a feeling Cyn will be that way too, since she'll drop and roll right in front of us after a ride when we turn her back out. No inhibitions about it at all.

Very good and welcome! My husband is gonna post our stock "how to post pictures" instructions in a minute. He's looking it up.

Speaking of pics... cowboyway, we posted two of your horse pics that we found on an old thread, but if you have others you'd rather use, and if you have a pic of yourself, posed with or without a horse... we'd like to post it and see ya!

Those halters are good to have... and easy to pack long on trail rides. All my trail riding buddies use them.

That is the type halter that we are speaking of. It's my favorite too.

The link that Miss Target posted calls it the "Be Nice Halter". Personally, I don't like that name for them. Rather misleading. Not that they're NOT nice. I just don't care for all the PC stuff that implies.

Here's a pic that shows em both.

And on my next trip home, weekend of the 11th, I'm gonna try to get some more photos with me in em.

Its remarkable how much "Cody" changes from summer to winter. We'll post this new one too.

Great if you can get yourself in them on your next ride!

I hate that PC junk too. I read an article in one of these Palm Beach newspapers yesterday about how horrible bull riding is and rodeo in general. Some lady wrote that bucking straps cause "excruciating pain" to the bulls. Anyway, I read her letter and the gratuitous response and felt compelled to write a rebuttal. I'm working on it. I'll post a link later if I can find the article. You guys will just love it.

On trail rides for lunch stops, rope halters are great.
Not as heavy and bulky as the nylon or leather to carry.
The halter/bridle combos would be ideal, but I never got one.
