An Arvada mother was arrested recently, accused of hosting parties for teens where there was alcohol, drugs, and in some cases, sex.
Silvia Johnson, 40, said she just wanted to be a cool mom, but police told 7NEWS that her story should serve as a cautionary tale for all parents.
According to the arrest affidavit, the teen parties at Johnson's home took place over the span of a year and sometimes occurred weekly. Police say at the parties there was alcohol -- shots of tequila -- and drugs, specifically methamphetamine and marijuana. And, according to investigators, the alcohol and drugs came from Johnson, who now faces charges ranging from sex assault to contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
In the arrest affidavit, Johnson admits to having sexual contact with boys 15 to 17 years old and confesses to providing meth and alcohol. But Johnson said she did it because she was a "cool mom" and was "feeling like one of the group."
Now, she told 7NEWS that it was all a stupid mistake and she was going through a bad time in her life.
Police say parents need to know what is going on in their children's lives and investigate where they are going and who they are hanging out with.
"Establish a relationship with those parents. As a parent, you just can't say it is OK for you to go over to a child's home and assume they are safe, you can't assume that this day and age," said Susan Medina, with the Arvada Police Department.
Johnson has no known criminal history prior to this arrest. Johnson told 7NEWS that she has apologized to the parents of the teens who are connected to the case.
Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 17.
And the DU mother of the year award goes to...

Looks just like one of the group, doesn't she?
yep, just when I got to thinking how I wished I knew some "cool moms" when I was in HS, this photo had to pop up.
"My friend had a really cool mom. She used to pass out with half her beer still in the fridge.
Then when she'd wake up and find it gone, she'd stumble to the store for more and we'd drink half of that too.
It was a never ending cycle."
LOL
