When my children were quite young, a home town girl, Heather Whetstone, was crowned Miss America. She had a hearing disability and as she walked down the runway, she put her hand up with her pinkie, forefinger, and thumb extended. My daughter had recently been taught that the gesture meant - I love you - and we all sign that to each other on a daily basis.

That's a really great thing. Teaching sign language, though non-verbal, is still good for general language skills. And learning another way to say "I Love You" is always a plus!

:)
