Jan 20, 2005 Woman gives birth to giant baby
SAO PAULO - A woman in north-eastern Brazil has given birth to what one doctor called a 'giant baby', a boy weighing 7.57kg.
Mrs Francisca Ramos dos Santos, 38, gave birth to the healthy boy named Ademilton on Tuesday at a hospital in Salvador, north-east of Sao Paulo.
He was the largest baby born at the Albert Sabin Maternity Hospital in its 12-year history, the hospital said.
'Obviously the baby was born by Caesarean section,' hospital director Rita Leal said.
'Both mother and baby are doing just fine.'
'Ademilton could truly be considered a giant baby, for he was born weighing what a six-month-old-baby normally weighs,' pediatrician Luiz Sena Azul told the Correio da Bahia newspaper.
Mrs Santos has four other children - ages nine, 12, 14, and 15 - who were born weighing between 3.5kg and 5kg.
'She knew Ademilton would be a big baby, but not this big,' Ms Leal said. 'She, her husband and the hospital staff were caught by surprise.'
The average weight for newborns in Brazil is 3.5kg for boys and 3kg for girls.
LOL...nurse friends asked what brand of prenatal vitamins I taking...they wanted to avoid them at all costs. My 10 lb big boy was too chubby for the newborn, hospital issue Pampers (no need to roll down the front for the umbilical cord...this was 10 years ago before they got smart and 'notched' the diapers). And for the record, I gained about 27lbs w/him and I am 5'2." (The avg. suggested weight gain should be about 25 lbs).
Gravity has been very cruel to the Kennedys.
I guess she'll be taking back those 0-3 month onesies...
Hey, I was 8 lbs 10 oz too!!
Bwaahaaahaa Snort!
"Gravity has been very cruel to the Kennedys."
Nope! The Kennedys have been very cruel to the Kennedys. (And the US in general.)
Hey..should we start a fat babbie support group? ;-)
I was so fat as an infant my father hid money in me! *LOL*
It's a good thing for the mother that Brazil is also known for great plastic surgery!
Video or DVD coverage now available at Blockbuster.
My grandfather was 13lbs, and ended up being only 5'5" and all of 140 lbs.
"My grandfather was 13lbs, and ended up being only 5'5" and all of 140 lbs."
I was going to post that Elvis Presley was 13 lbs at birth, and wasn't he a twin? (Although the sibling didn't make it.)
My baby was born 8lbs 12 oz, and he just turned 3 months on jan 10th, on the 6th he weighed in at 18lbs 13 oz! The article said the newborn weighed what a 6 month old normally does, so i guess I have a 3month old who weighs what a 6 month old should. I imagine she will experience a lot of back problems carrying around that little turkey, or huge turkey actually. she's better hope he walks early!
also I gained 40 lbs while pregnant and am only 5'2". I am back down in the 120s again though, luckily:)
