So how long does it take to get permission? What if as in her case someone dieing or a baby on the way?

There are always ways to move quickly, especially in grave circumstances. Especially, one would think, for someone employed in a high position in the diocese. Joe Schmo wanting to get his routine "my fiancee's uncle is a Methodist preacher and we want to get married in his Church" is a matter of routine. "My fiance is about to die and we'd like to get married before he does" is a different circumstance.

Well, you don't have to agree with everything but if you are going to be part of an organization you need to support their policies, I guess.
