These pictures of the same whale feeding for several hours, each mouthful consisting of several hundred pounds of fish after she had screened the water through her baleen.
Sometimes the whale would dive down below and blow bubbles to force all the "food" into a tight circle. She would come up straight through the middle and grab a mouthful of water and food. She would then dispel the water through her baleen and swallow the food.
At other times she would slap her tail into the mass inside the bubbles. This would stun the fish and she would "lunge" through the mass on the surface once again taking a mouthful of water and fish.
I will simply post them and will be happy to answer any questions.
Oh! The seagulls and gannets you see crowding around her head are there to pick up the crumbs.
Neat pictures, Reg!
Upon his death it was auctioned off. It now belongs to the Moonies.
You got some neat pictures, particularly the last one. Those are hard pictures to get, I know from experience, particularly with a digital camera that lags a couple seconds behind the action :~D It's easy to be looking the wrong direction and catch nothing but the splash after the fact.
Were you in a boat when you took those pictures? EEEKKKKKK
