I remember in my martial arts class, my instructor telling us there are certain strikes and holds he wouldn't do full strength on someone over the age of 35; for example, a forearm strike to the side of the neck.

Yeah.... but doesn't that sound more like egotistical bluster? Do you do a full strength forearm strike to the side of a 20 year old's neck?

It sounds more like "I will always pull my punches with you class... to avoid killing you. My hands are registered as weapons".
