I don't think it was ever claimed to be "so important."

I'll wait for IMRight to respond, then.

That's where I got it from. Sgt. Schultz and I have a lot in common except I am not fat.

Oh, by the way, the DSS fragment of Psalm 22:17 has been dated as late as the second century C.E. by scholars and researchers including Geza Vermes, the primary translator of the DSS.

You assume a "translation error" and not, in fact, an accurate rendering of the then-Hebrew text which was later corrupted.

Do you assume a deliberate mistranslation to support the development of the Cult of Mary?

Luke 1:28 (DR) And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

I mean, I know we're supposed to be perfidious and all, but still...

The RCC no longer teaches that.

I guess they figured 1,963 years was enough. :-)

I don't think it was ever claimed to be "so important." That's kind of what makes the entire argument futile. I can totally cede that almah is the correct word, and that it does not have a meaning necessarily of "virgin" and it still doesn't change the truth of Jesus. It is a tempest in a teapot.

Then you agree that it was not meant to prophesy the birth of Jesus?

I've had the Senate Confirmation Hearings on for the last few hours. I don't know why I do stupid things like this.

At this moment John Kerry is pontificating though he is really no worse than all those other assholes who are making noises for the camera.

Don't exaggerate. There was no RCC until Constantine invented it.

No, sorry. I only said it was possible to cede that it doesn't technically say "virgin" without affecting the reality of Jesus' birth.

Ok I take that back. I'll just say they left it in there until well after the Shoah. :-)

Interesting. There is no one who disputes the historical reality of the birth of Jesus. You are willing to cede it was not foretold in the Old Testament?

Off the top of my head, there is also ...
Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

-------------------------------------------------------

Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

I just looked up Isaiah 9:6. God does calls the Son, God and Father.
