These derricks look very strong, and they are in some respects. They can stand over a million pound load.

When fire hits them, though, they crater in a hurry.

I'll bet the time sequence we're looking at here is less than ten minutes.

I'm betting it is subsurface, parting of the casing and intentionally ignited to burn off H2S.

I work for a well control company, I'll ask the "fire gods" in my office if they have heard about this event.
