Well its official its colts, pats next week...after a disapointing loss in NE last year the colts have to once again go to foxboro hoping to put a end to there losing streak...
so colts fans UNITE its our time!
You do know, I'm sure, that 32 of Manning's 49 TD passes came indoors? As things stand right now, it is not going to be a pleasant day in Foxboro on Sunday...
Let us make no mistake - this is a great offensive juggernaut Indianapolis has. By the same token, this New England team is one for the ages. They've won 31 of their last 35. They must do something right!
CA....
New England is not just a good team, they are outstanding. Consider, they won the Super Bowl last year. What did they do? They went out and made it even stronger.
But I just feel it is time for an upset.
And Oh, of course Poteat won't start. He is the last back they would use just in case of an emergency. My point was, it shows you how desperate they are when they sign a bum like that.
Again, it will be the Patriots over the Colts 23-17.
Ground game keeps Manning on the sidelines for most of the game. Massachusetts weather in January slows down that potent offense of the Colts.
Bank on this Pats win. Then I believe Piggsburgh goes to the Bowl.
Seems to me that the Colts also have a 1500 yard rusher. Who says they don't come out running and control the tempo of the game keeping Tom Brady on the bench?
It also seems that Pittsburgh has won 14 straight, not bad if you ask me. And so what if Manning's TDs have been indoors. Culpepper is indoors, Bulger is indoors, you don't see either of them throwing 32 indoor touchdown passes in a season.
Because the defensive linemen and linebackers of the Pats are stronger than the Colts'. The only weakness that the Pats have on defense is their injury riddled secondary.
Also, did the Colts give up playing defense against the Broncos? The Broncos were moving the ball fairly successfully in the second half.
Yes, they basically did give up playing defense. They were up by about 30 points, and had relaxed a bit.
No, neither one of them did, because neither one (1) has a supporting cast like Manning, and (2) neither one is Peyton Mannning.
That's beside the point.
The point is, the Colts are a different team in an outside stadium, and the colder it is, the more problematic things become.
In terms of strength of schedule, Indianapolis has done a little bit better than New England, but Indy is 4-3 in outdoor stadia, while the Pats are 10-2.
I am not saying the Colts can't win - they did, after all, finish 12-4, and have that great offense. But I am saying that if they do win, they'll really have to earn it, and it won't at all be like the scrimmage they played this past Sunday.
I don't predict the Pats in a cakewalk. (I like them 27-21.) Do you predict the Colts in one?
Pittsburg's had a good year, and it's not for nothin' that most all power rankings place them first. However, if memory serves me correctly, neither the Patriots nor the Colts are playing Pittsburg this weekend. Let's talk about them next week, OK?
CA....
You know your football. Manning does indeed have an amazing supporting cast, but it is partly because he has made them so great. I am going with Indy 34-27. It will start out low scoring then the defenses will open up, and the Colts will win on a last minute drive.
ah trips right what better way to overload the defensive
3 man to man cover 2 LB zone protect send 3 line men in the 4th and fifth acts as a spy to watch brady and dillion
problem is if brady goes 3 wide...its almost defiantly a pass or a screen,
i could be wrong 3 wide in a situation when you run 52 D is hard one to plan for
Nice post.
That's a good cover, but that assumes Indy will play defense the way it is supposed to be played.
Actually, I like Indy's defense this year as opposed to last year. They have improved in a number of areas, but they still have a ways to go.
In most games, with this offense, the Colts can get away with any number of unatoned sins (defensively, that is), but this is not just any game, and it's not just any opponent.
I'm assuming, for the sake of argument, that Indy takes possession first, and we see if Manning immediately tries to probe the secondary for any weakness. Those early plays and formations will point greatly in the direction Dungy plans to go.
I see where the over/under is 51½. The bookies expect a high scoring game. That may yet happen, but I see this as a case of two guys grabbing each other by the nuts, and not letting go - at least till one screams give. It wouldn't surprise me at all if all the scoring occured in the 4th quarter.
I see a slugfest. That's my kind of football.
If you don't post any more before the game (I hope you do), then I'd like to hear your post-mortem after the game, OK?
CA....
This is simply Peyton's year. Who do you think will win next year?
i dunno its a hard call to make
if i was in his position id wait one series to get a feel of what was being thrown at me..for example..just check to one play in the huddle run it...after the series is over punt or score look at the above photo's then move from there
i know peyton will go audible happy..its a given..
ill still maintain that the 52 defense would be a good use...id have to stare at my madden playbooks for hours to think of anything better
plus im not a football player..been a hockey player since i was 5
But getting back to the original subject of this thread...
It's not just Manning who's audible-happy. Brady does that a lot, too. On the other side of the ball, Bruschi will be barking cadence-for-cadence with Manning, so it should be pretty chatty down there on the field.
As for waiting, there's always a case to be made for that. Photos from up top always help, of course, but at this point in the season, given that Manning and Dungy have undoubtedly viewed every tape tape in existence, save perhaps Sixth Sense, what can't they expect Belichik to throw at them?
As always, it'll come down to execution. That's why I stated in an earlier post that your 5-2 is plausible, but given Indy's predilictions on defense this year, execution remains the theme.
I do look forward to this game much more than I did last week's, that's for sure.
Keep the posts comin'!
CA....
Sorry, but I was just reviewing the posts on the thread, and saw this one.
You state, "problem is if brady goes 3 wide...its almost defiantly a pass or a screen...".
I've seen the Pats run and execute fly patterns out of this formation, so it is possible. But I agree, a screen is more likely.
Just thought I'd mention that in passing (!)...
Hope your morning's good!
CA....
but everytime i see and ace formation with trips (3 wide) them wideouts are being used for blockers
So, which would I rather play? Indy or New England?
Neither!
But I will make a prediction, keeping in mind that I got 3 out of 4 wrong.
Manning is on a tear. Colts over Patriots by 3.
