I've made and appointment with the breeder/trainer in Washington, that hairofthedog recommended, for next Monday. I want him to evaluate my dog for personality. Is the growling HARDWIRED or a SOFTWIRED problem that has a good chance of being trained out of him.

I don't feel as depressed and at least at this point have a direction to go in. We shall see.

My GS is Germain lines.

So people, I'm still interested in insight, if you think of something that might help from your personal experience - let me know.

Wish us all luck.

I am so glad! ~Please~ report back on how it goes!

And don't tell him I said he is a Dog God (it'll embarrass me ;~D)

Good job! Glad you're going to get a consult from a knowledgeable Dog God . . . < ducking >

Best of luck and I hope everything works out.

I agree, really shouldn't be any need for pets to do this. My biggest fear is it would over-stamp an already naturally aggressive dog pet as REALLY aggressive - w/o the obedience to calm him down and make him recall who is boss.

BS on the "confidence" thing at some young age; I didn't think of them being worried about that. Sounds like indirect title-tampering to me - covering for a wimp to make him seem confident and thus keep him in the gene pool? I started that "horrible" Koehler on my 6-mo dominant female Shepherd (1st time I ever trained a dog at all), and there was NO loss of confidence, trust, or assertion or "spirit", let me tell you! A happier yet better-behaved dog there could not be!

I can also say my current (wimpy) dog has not lost any of her "spirit" or what confidence she has w/the same training at youngish age. She has always been basically happy and cheerful, albeit scared of her own shadow, before or after training.

Or when he'd get up and mount the Golden next to him while in his 3 minute sit-stay for his CDX.

Now, that is about the funniest thing I've read in a long time...wincing at the image...
