Re: CASABLANCA..... as Louis said, she (Ilsa) loved Rick, but she got on the plane anyway. As Rick / Bogie said, 'the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world'.

"Frenchy", aka Victor Laszlo, as played by Paul Henreid, was actually a Czech! He mentions being in Prague in 1938. So that's two honorable Frenchmen: Inspector Renault and the Marquis de Lafayette.

In the words of Margaret Thatcher... What was the result of the French Revolution? A pile of headless corpses and a tyrant!

Man, I forgot one on my list - "They Live!"

Greatest fight scene...EVER!

Yep! The pinnacle of Rowdy Roddy Piper's career! No two human beings could ever have such a fight and both of them walk away.

I liked Pretty Woman when I was a young college student, but nowadays I like to watch romantic movies that hubby will watch with me. We both love Steel Magnolias because it is sappy, AND it has some of the best one-liners in a serious film. Hubby can recite many of Weez-ahs lines. We also love You've Got Mail, While You Were Sleeping, and the newer version of Sabrina. I don't think I've ever seen the old version. The Ya-Ya movie was ok, but it just did not appeal to me the way Steel Magnolias did. And hubby hates it. Two Weeks Notice is another one that hubby and I like.

The Red Violin would be my #1 followed by Dangerous Liaisons"

those would be on mine as well.

Can't believe no mention of "When Harry Met Sally." I have to admit cracking up at the "Don't 'F' with Mr. Zero" T-shirt line. And, of course, the diner climax scene.

One of my quirky favorites is also "Raising Arizona." Holly Hunter's accent just gets my giggles going.

LOL! That is a great one- there are so many in that movie.

"They were smoking everything but their shoes!"

"Maybe she's praying for us because we were gossiping. Maybe she's praying because the elastic is shot in her pantyhose."

"Very good, Annelle. Spoken like a true smartass."

If my wife caught me watching Steel Magnolias, she'd call the white suited guys with the straight jacket.

Hubby won't watch it alone. But it really is funny. If he were here, he would rattle off some of his favorite lines. They're not funny when I say them 'cuz I almost miss key words. (i am just no good at telling jokes or stories.)

"Fried Green Tomatoes."

That was our code phrase at a previous, PC place of employment for calling someone a poofer. We would just say "his favorite movie was Fried Green Tomatoes".

Interesting - I can think of other movies much more "poofy," ;-). My husband enjoyed Fried Green Tomatoes for the humor and the murder plot.

Now that I think about it, I am certain I went with a group of friends to see Steel Magnolias in the movie theater, and only one or two of the guys who went were named "Mark, Rick, or Steve." Actually, none of them were named those names, but one or two of 'em have decided they are gay.

"All gay men are named Mark, Rick, or Steve." "All gay men have track lighting."

"I'm not crazy, Malynn. I've just been in a bad mood for 40 years."

"When it comes to sufferin', she's right up there with Elizabeth Taylor."

"Let's connect the bald spots."

"Looks like two pigs fightin' under a blanket."

"That looks like an autopsy."

"Nobody gives a damn about grape shit. All they care about is touchdowns and injuries."

And thanks for the clarification on Victor Laszlo. It's been a while since I've watched the movie. Though you'd think I'd remember a name that is hardly French...
yup, we are down to two honorable frenchman..dare I say this? perhaps one--there is a story going around among historians that Lafayette did it all for the money. But I really don't pretend to know.
