Growing up, I had a good friend who's parents were total liberal hippies. He grew up to be quite different from them. I think, in a large part, a lot of his development was a direct rejection of his parent's way of doing things.

I have a similar background. My parents are totally anti-American, socialist whackos. They can't understand where I'm coming from, and they constantly 'step in it' when they try to debate politics. But I love them anyway.
