Those were two good wins for ND, as was the victory over Navy. But Notre Dame was too inconsistent. Michigan had a better year overall than Notre Dame.

Without a playoff, though, it's all meaningless. Nothing is really settled.

What is reasonably certain is that the gap between the BCS conferences and the rest is much less than 20 years ago. Big schools lose to MWC and MAC teams now more than they used to. The Sun Belt still stinks, though.

I agree. And I still can't figure out why the 'college presidents' are so opposed to a playoff. It can't be money, (as they so often seem to say) because the interest generated in a real playoff would be tremendous. Plus, there would be better regular season matchups, as teams wouldn't fear taking a loss early in the year in the interests of improving their team.
