Schopenhauer was a piece of work. So sure was he of the superiority of his thinking and writing, that he scheduled his classes at the same times that Hegel scheduled his classes. Of course, Hegel was the most well-known philosopher in the world at that time, so nobody showed up for Schopenhauer's classes. No doubt, this just reinforced Schopenhauer's belief in the essential correctness of his dour view of the world.
