IMO, they are unrealistic for the average horse owner
I wholeheartedly agree. She tried to make me use some of the techniques on my horse, and I just suceeded in confusing the hell out of him! However, I did use the idea of constantly driving the horse away from me when I was teaching my horse how to free lunge. Once he figured out what he wanted, things went fairly smoothly.

Speaking of lunging, I had Sarah Lee in the round pen. I have her saddled and realized I forgot the darn rope so I decided to just run her with the whip. She was doing what she wanted and wouldn't listen. I saw someone elses lunge rope outside so I picked it up. It was shorter and much easier to handle than mine. We were doing good and she kind of kicked up her butt when she went from a trot to a lope but I'm thinking this is normal and just tugged and gave her a whoa and started over. This time when she went into a lope she bucked. I yelled whoa and jerked her around towards me. I though she was going to trip. She just stood like she was "waiting for it" not fear but kind of acceptance. I walked up and patted her and we started again. Completely different horse. She rode great. I felt bad that she acted like she was going to get beaten but for my safety I had to teach her and that's the only way I knew how. Still made me feel bad though. I usually enjoy the ground work but I didn't that day.
