What do yall think of this? Another woman at my stables and I are talking about starting a local riding club where we would meet once a month and talk "horse" and plan activities and stuff. The stable owner told me yesterday that she thought it was an excellent idea. It may never happen but we are thinking about trying to get it together. Any suggestions or problems yall see that we would need to be aware of?

There's lots of riding clubs - trail riding clubs in particular around here. I've thought about joining them, but haven't yet. I don't know what to warn against.

I think it's a great idea. I don't know if the riding clubs you are talking about are the same as horsemen's associations but I'm guessing they are.

We belong to two. In one of them, we just go to the shows four times a year and get the newsletters. In the other, we take an active part, meetings, rides, etc. It's a good way to meet people with the same interests, learn new things, and have someone to ride with.

Starting a riding club is a great idea. A friend and I started a County chapter of the Ohio Horseman's Council years ago. They are an affiliation, of The American Horse Council. It was always a good time, riding and having cookouts. Here is a link to the Horseman's Corral publication. Most of the clubs are in Ohio, but a lot of them post their newsletters and minutes of meetings to give you an in-site. You will have to register to read online, but it is free. Good Luck!
