I looked at the page and saw it - the last item is it alone -

"Shock-Absorber" Lunge Line/Lead Extender Absorbs shock when horse pulls while lunging, leading or being tied. Easily snaps onto any lead or lunge line. Eases strain on arms, shoulders and back. Super strong nylon elasticized bungee cord with brass hardware. Black, white, red, hunter green, burgundy and navy.

So - it must be for shock absorbing. I can see the logic on ties but not on lunge lines and leads.
