I have a very weird phenomena going on here. It started a couple of months ago with two yearlings. One ate the other's tail off. Well, we separated them, then one of the mares ate off the tail of the mare she is with. Then the other mare ate her tail. Then one of the mares ate off the tail of one of our geldings and had to reach through hot wire to do this.
Everyone gets minerals and supplements, plenty to eat, grain and hay. Why are they doing this?

I'e had them do that. We had one eat his mother's tail off, and she had a long thick tail. It was so much I called the vet, I was afraid he would colic. or not be able to pass it.
Vet said he mmight, but doubted it. They do it from nervosness, so he said, but one can see another doing it and pick up the habit. Maybe that is why you have two doign it.

Good grief. You might try a google search. I guarantee there is somebody out there that has had the same problem. I don't have a clue.
