What you are saying makes a lot of sense, its just that I would like to try it. What about the bareback pads? I am pretty supple, have had many years of martial arts and walked 8 miles a day and did a lot of cycling.

I found the pics of ecurbh up ~bareback~, I was looking in the wrong place, because I was remembering it wrong. It wasn't in the snow when he got up the first time. Here he is, with just my english saddle pad under the butt for a little padding. This was his first ride, I was sure we saved the moment in pictures, we save everything in pictures!

If you want to try it with a bareback pad, try it, at least walking. Maybe your husband will handle the lead line for you until you can feel balanced. The nice thing about bareback is it's easy to learn how to hug the neck and slide off in an 'emergency' if you want. Just know that you can't hang on to the pad, and never use a bareback pad with stirrups The cinches are not adequate. Grab a handful of mane if you are going to hang on, not the pad.
