Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
Daughter is 16, son is 14. Both been riding since they were little - 7 or 8, but they've really started to get good the last year or so. My trainer says she can put either one of them on anything. Last time my son went to a show he won every class he entered and the Maiden Championship. My daughter placed first in all her classes, but unfortunately came up against Mom in her championship class . . . I can still ride without stirrups better than she can, and the judge got kinda creative . . . of course my horse is better behaved and has a trot you could sit forever.
It's a beautiful start :)
That's great. My son rode when he was young (6-8) then again when we first moved out here but his passion now has 450horses (he wants to race). My DIL makes up for that though.
Well ladies, I've got to call it a night. Great start on #3 Hair :)
Fair enough.... I'm off too.
Where do you hunt? I used to hunt as a guest with Marlboro in Md
Good morning all and have a great last day of 2004.
Happy New Year. Everyone be safe tonight:)
Becky
Welcome. New here?
Becky
Hair, just a note, you may know this. Be careful dallying up on ecurbh saddle. His type of saddle is not really made for that even if it does have a horn. They can break under pressure.
Becky
Yeah - I do sortof know it isn't a roping saddle, but I hoped if I looped the line around it I could get a little better pull than the pony just dragging my arm off. I fear pulling the saddle over as much as breaking the horn. I'd never tie it off for that reason ;~D
I just think it will take the pony one time of ponying and trotting up when she needs to, to break this mental block she has. Was thinking ecurbh could get behind her and encourage. She isn't lazy, it's something else.
OK. Just making sure. I'm not sure how you get one to trot when the lead horse is. I have trouble just keeping lead and reins straight at a walk:). The only horse I have ever ponyed was Dot, from her mother. I never dallyed till she was walking good up close to Belle's hip.
Oh, one more thing...not trying to be a know it all, but I do have a roper in the family:), I'm not sure what you mean by "tie off". You really don't want to "tie", Just make a couple of loops, if your going to use your horn. Even on a roping saddle you never "tie".
Becky
I don't think the coffee has kicked in:), I thought your post said you were going to tie off. Sorry.
Becky
It's OK... good to cover all the bases so none of us does anything dumb that the others know better about... :~D
~sip~
That's good you are getting better response with the curb. He's a great looking buckskin. Enjoy the good weather. It has been in the high 40's the past few days here. The snow and ice are gone, but now there is water everywhere. The pasture is a swamp and it's muzzele loader season here, so the horses will stay in.
Have a Happy New Year!
We haven't tried to get that fancy... We are just walking, but Bay walks very fast, and she just drags.
Woo hoo! Glad to hear it and look forward to the pics!
Occasionally with Midland, which is down in middle GA. My cousin hunts with Midland a lot.
Oh, OK, I thought she was just not trotting.
