The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Just click and then go to the "Horses" album. It's all Fred.

Are you looking for one?

Are you born and raised in Texas? Isn't Texas A&M north of Houston?

Are you looking for one?

Not right now. Living in a little suburban neighborhood. I think we'll probably get the two older children out of school and then talk about moving to where we can have a couple horses.

Are you born and raised in Texas?

No, but I got here as quick as I could .. *wink*

Isn't Texas A&M north of Houston?

Yep. I'm north of Houston and southeast of Texas A&M. A&M is in Bryan/College Station.

Your pics of that little Fjord are great! What a neat horse.

I took the liberty of looking through some of your other pics. Don't you love Galveston? I always liked going through the old houses and walking on the Strand. I have a friend that lives in Corpus but I like Galveston much better. Is Gaido's still there?

I'd love to see your Fjord pic. I'm sure that we all would! :-)

You know, that was only the second time I was every in Galveston. My parents were out for my wedding and we took them there the day after. I DO enjoy Galveston. And it's history is so rich also.

I LOVE Galvestion history. I do have trouble reading about the hurricane, though. An entire orphanage full of children was wiped out.

If you ever get to go back, eat at Gaido's. Best fish you'll ever eat. We don't have any good fish places in the DFW metroplex.

HMM. I can't remember but my husband and I had some good times at the one that used to be on Jacksboro highway. Can't tell you much about what was playing though:')

I'd do it in a heartbeat! Unfortunately, with 5 kids and about 50 animals that I take care of, it's nearly impossible for me to do anymore than a day trip. My oldest daughter is going to Texas A&M for something in February and I was toying with the idea of taking Tuffy to the vet clinic there and see if they can figure out what he's allergic to so I can treat the allergy and not just the symptoms. I doubt that I do it, though.

I like Galveston too. My dad was in the hospital there several years ago. I was homeschooling my youngest and he was doing "finals" We finished up there. My dad did fine and my son had a ball.

Hahahaha Did you and your husband ever go dancing at Spencer's Palace or Spencer's Corner? Neither is still there.

I used to go to the Cherry Lane Drive Inn with a pack of friends in the trunk.

Another advantage of homeschooling: Finals can be done out of town at a hospital .. hehe

Cindy, those are beautiful, is that all painting? The colors are so pretty.

No but what used to facinate me was "cow town". I would catch the bus and just walk around. I think I would like to go to check out "Billy Bob's" someday.

Thanks. I wish I could show you the winner. I (and some helpers:') sketched and painted the nativity scene. A nurses aide drew the angels. We had Christmas cards on another wall that kids in the community drew for us.
