Thread Four: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1332664/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
What you need is a firewall or a new browser. If you're using IE, it's a glutton for spyware and such. I recommend switching to Mozilla or Firefox, which are both web browsers Ever since I switched to Mozilla, I haven't had a single piece of spyware set foot on my computer. Both browsers feature popup blockers.
Your weather is very similar to mine.
I run Zone Alarm and Norton constantly, then periodically, run SpyBot. I do have Internet Explorer but no problems with pop ups so far, knock on wood.
I'm taking the last two weeks of Feb off and picking up my momma and going to visit family in Ft. Worth, if everything goes according to plan. Maybe we can meet for lunch somewhere if you want.
Oh, that's not bad ..
Well, I'm NORTH of HOUSTON! Does THAT count? *wink*
Zone Alarm is amazing. I just got it.
You know what, I think the barrel racers that are on a more professional level do the slow work. When my next door neighbor is working her barrel horses, it's always walk/trot/lope stuff. I've never seen her go faster than an easy lope when she's exercising her horses. When I was on the high school rodeo team, it was always pedal to the metal. We were just dumb kids.
Every now and then when I'm talking to her, she'll mention a friend named Josey.
Anybody familiar with Fjords? I have some really cute pics of a Fjord named Fred with his young rider at her very first dressage show if you're interested.
Actually, I don't think LG turns his barrels like Martha Josey taught. I'm not sure what he does, but his runs always look different to me. He gets good times tho, so whatever works. The girl that gave me and my daughter some instruction on it said the way he did it you'd have to have more physical strength. What ever that means:).
Becky
I'd love to. Doesn't your family live near TCU? University Drive has lots of nice restaurants now.
Oooooo don't tease me! *kidding*
I don't have anybody to ride with. :(
Yeah, I wish she would have stressed more that she never makes runs at home, and never runs more then twice in a day. Alot of people around here need to hear that:)
Becky
Maybe he drags them around.
Seriously, I've never seen one of LG's horses run. I was thinking of ordering one of his videos. He has snippets of them on his website and they look interesting.
It almost looks like he runs straight into his pocket, then instead of bending around, the more like rolls back around it, like picks up it's front end and swings around.
Becky
I'd like to see them.
Yes, I remember Griff's. My family didn't have much money back then and we ate there alot. I always thought they put too much ketchup on those burgers. I don't remember the place with the conveyor belt. I'll call my mom and see if she remembers it. I'm betting that she will.
What were those 2 old drive in movie theaters over there called?
Oh, sob sob *wink* .. *I* don't even have a horse right now! snif snif
That sounds like it would be hard to do on a horse that's just learning the pattern. After they get it down, might be easier.
