Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
:) I posted and then when the page came up I thought, well that lady can read minds.
YES
You know, the thing is, even after all this buildup, I don't think you'll be disappointed!
I'll get a pic. Somehow ;~D
Thanks. One of the very few pictures where I'm in front of a camera instead of behind it.
We know you have good taste, we've seen pictures of your hubby and your horses.
We like seeing a face to the people we talk to too:)
Becky
I truly enjoy all the pictures on this thread - I like meeting the people and the horses.
Becky
Love it - looks like he's getting a shower on a hot day.
Yeah, he gets hosed off a lot when it's hot. Loves it. I actually caught him pawing the hose till he'd put a hole in it, then stand in the spray. Sad thing is I thought the dog was doing it, and was always hollering at him for it everytime I found a new hose. Then one day I saw Rusty doing it.
Becky
Indy loves standing in a spray - when it gets real hot here I sometimes turn sprinklers on, you know - one on top of the chicken coop, one by each of the paddocks. He will come over and stand in it.
Your dog probably hates to see a hose now :)
And standing in the resulting spray from the hole he made:
He's a clown.
Becky
Yeh, but what a smart clown.
Over just a few weeks, I had to put about 10 mends in the hose till I figured out what was going on. I was about ready to murder the dog.
Why is it cute that the horse was doing it, but pissed me off when I thought it was the dog:)
Becky
I love that series of pics. I've sprayed my horses when it's hot and they still hate it. They feel great afterwards, but they don't seek it out.
Rocky doesn't like to be sprayed.
My mare did tho.
I think Rusty liking it so much all has to do with his overheating problem. The people I bought him from didn't realize he had the problem, but did say they noticed he spent alot of time in thier pond. Thankfully he doesn't lay down, just splashes...alot.
Becky
I guess we expect dogs to chew hoses, we don't expect horses to be smart enough to do something like that. I wonder why not - it's my horses that unlatch gates, not my dogs :)
That day I caught him doing it I was surprised. Another thing, he only pawed it when it was on. So he had figured out ~when~ to paw.

What's the deal with all the top ten lists on the forum tonight???
Becky
Big day today. Went for a trail ride with some folks from our barn - about 7 miles through Kennesaw Mt. Battlefield Park - not counting the time we spent cantering around the big fields. Gracie was of course a perfect lady - even when we startled a bunch of deer and they spooked everybody. Somebody moved all the fallen trees so there was nothing to jump ( - bah humbug :-( -) except for one pine log part way across a trail -- we jumped that one to death in both directions.
Then tonight we had an early New Year party with all the "barn ladies" - lots of food, door prizes, and our hostess who is a whiz with a digital camera made a Power Point montage complete with audio of everybody with their horses. It was CUTE - we watched it all twice.
