Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
Got to get out of here. Hubby waiting. Wants to go to the Road House. later.
Be comfortable with who you are and what works for you. Ignore um:')
That's a hard question. I guess I'd say an animal that you are emotionally attached to.

It has quit sleeting here now. But still very cold. With everything wet, everything is covered in ice. I had trouble getting the gate unlatched just now when I went to feed, because it was covered in ice.
Becky
Later. Good to see you back! :-)
It isn't... could barely see the scrape till I clipped around it a little. It's on the inside rear, I think he probably kicked himself, or got his leg through a rail... I think Cyn went in there with him. Our fault for leaving his stall unlatched.
We're lucky if we had some early training from such people. My early trainer was not very 'approachable' either, she was harder on us kids than she was the horses, but her lessons stuck also. (She scared me to death ;~D)
Well, that doesn't look too bad. Good.
Becky
This lady scared me too:), and I wasn't a kid. About the same age as her. I don't know what it is about her, she was very very nice, and very encouraging, but I don't think I could call her again for help.
I use to tell Jenny that my goal as far as horses were concerned was to be like Meg. She rode her horses all the time, rain or shine, hot or cold, down the side of the road, and always looked so calm and unconcerned about the whole thing. The year Charlie was in kindergarten and I had to take him to school every afternoon, she was almost always out riding down the side of the road. I thought that was so cool:). I was very envious.
One time I saw her sitting on a horse in front of her mail box, one leg crooked around the horn, reading her mail...LOL...funny what impresses us, huh:)

Wimmen of great confidence and few words...
I have a very vivid memory from when I first moved my horse to this trainer's place. I put him in his stall, took his halter off and tossed it on the ground by the doorway. Her 6 year old daughter saw me do that and said "If my mom saw you do that, she'd hang you from the nail where the halter goes". I believed her!
LOL...another quirk of horse trainers???
I worked one summer for a girl who trains, boards, etc. She was very picky about that sort of thing. Halter and lead ropes not only had to be hung, but hung in a certain fashion. The halter buckled and hung from the poll strap, and the lead rop looped ONE time around it.
Becky
Sounds like the same trainer! I'm picky, but not that picky... Or will I be when I am running my own barn?
I thought that was a picture of my husband's leg.
ROTFL! Welcome back!
LOL;
Totally off subject, but Mack just showed me an article from another web site that was about a girl that was rescued on Monday 100 miles from shore from a piece of tree. From the tsunami thing. That's incredible.
Becky
I don't know. I imagine you could get pretty frustrated dealing with a bunch of people, especially kids. It might be part of the business, getting that picky.
Becky
Thanks, I appreciate the welcome back!
Now behave yourself... Halter hung up neatly, lead rope looped around just one time ;~D
Unbelievable.
Did you see on the news about the little british girl that warned her family that a tsunami was coming? They were down at the beach when the water disappeared. When her family started to walk out on the dry sea bottom, she said, "mummy, let's get out of here, that's a tsunami coming! I studied them in science right before we left for vacation!" Family says, "what's a tsunami?" She replies, "a tidal wave!" Family grabs all the nearby people and runs for it. They all lived. I'm think the girl was under 10, but I'm not sure.
I'll do my best but I might have a relapse.
