Quick release snaps and/or the bungee is going to be the weak link (they make one where the entire length of the tie has a little bit of give to it) But here's the thing: if you've got a puller, he'll break quick releases... but if you've got a puller, there is no safe way to tie in or to a horse trailer. He's either gonna get hurt, or break something. The pulling has to be prevented through tie training, or a tie setup that will work or is designed to break in a controlled way before the trailer is damaged, or by leaving him loose.
The benefit of the quick release at the tie point is that you can reach in and release it from the outside if they have gone down or have panicked and you can't always get to their head.
Why would there be one on a lunge line? That's what I don't understand. No one ties with a lunge line. Maybe for use with a bit or something like that?
I don't ~think~ I'd like the bungee on a lunge line. I hate a horse leaning on the line, but that's no way to prevent that, correction is.
The elastic trailer ties I've seen weren't just a regular line with a section of bungee, they were entirely stretchy, to a point. Kindof like an accordion. after the six inches of stretch, they were just as hard as a regular line.
I think the bungie on the lunge is a dumb idea... all it would do is deaden your corrections.
Yes, that's the kind of lines in my trailer. No bungee type thing.
I agree - it makes no sense to me. I just looked in all of my supply catalogs and I don't see anything like that in them either.
Prolly someone's home-made gadget. ;~D
:) Whew, I'm not alone. Was beginning to think the horse world had passed me by.
ac 3752-1 Here's one
"Shock-Absorber" Lunge Line/Lead Extender Absorbs shock when horse pulls while lunging, leading or being tied. Easily snaps onto any lead or lunge line. Eases strain on arms, shoulders and back. Super strong nylon elasticized bungee cord with brass hardware. Black, white, red, hunter green, burgundy and navy.
So - it must be for shock absorbing. I can see the logic on ties but not on lunge lines and leads.
I scrolled down and found it... seems like a dumb idea... because it wouldn't discourage them from leaning on it, and it would deaden your corrections.
I didn't want it. I just had not seen anything like it before so that's why I asked.
I do like that braided rope lunge line though. I hate my flat one.
Folk are always trying to think up new stuff for us to buy.... Some good, some not so good. ;~D
I wish I could find the tie strap I saw. I find either or but no combinations. I see where the give would be good but I think I would rather have all cord.
How does the double rope help?
They make other kinds you'll see if you go to tack shops.
The trouble with your using them is that you probably don't have tie points in your trailer... just the posts of the stock trailer structure itself, right? Honestly, if you tie to those with a quick release knot, you need not make it more complicated than that, unless you want to install tie rings.
Well you did mention homemade:'). The previous owner put in rings. We just find that it's easier to tie and release from the bars.
