The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I buy vet wrap everytime I'm at the tack or feed store. I use alot of it on horses and kids.
Wow. That has to go to the top of my "You know you're a horse person when..." list. Cindy, vet wrap will be a good thing to put in your first aid kit. It comes in all sort of colors. Hot pink, green blue red black..

I've never seen it anywhere besides the tack shop. Did you see it at a people store?

No, I've never seen it at a people store, I just remember talking about it in an organic chemistry class once, and using it in the lab, and the lab instructor being very nervous about it. It was more of an idle comment. Don't mind me.

Sarah Lees wound looks good. You can't see the hole now. She was a little fussy this evening though. It's probably sore.

My digital camera not working. I got a check battery pack last night so I put in new ones. I took about 10 pictures of the cat and it did it again. I put 4 more new ones in and it comes on and then shuts down. It's not the batteries even though it says so. Yalls ever do this?

Why was the lab instructor nervous? Is it really flammable?

No, she was just afraid that we'd absorb whatever other chemical we were working with faster/deeper/whatever. We wore gloves, and it solved the problem! :-)

They have... but it's still available for use on horses.

I hesitate to answer because I don't want yall to think I'm a wuss but the trainer gave it. Eddie and I "discussing" (ok arguing) where and who's going to hold her and she took it and told us just to watch this time. Sarah Lee completely different than when she was with the vet. She stroked her and then popped her. SL jumped over a couple of feet but she just went with her. After she stopped my trainer just reassured her and finished the job.

People used it on themselves a lot in the 80's but it's been years since I've seen it anywhere except feed store or horse catalogs.

Do you have a Kodak? Could be that you're not using the right type of batteries. Mine does that.
