I remember that the nice former owner found him broken down at some sale and couldn't believe it was the same horse... looking at those knees, and how thin and dull he was....

See.... This is why I can't even sell this dang pony of mine. It was that book! Might as well name her Merrylegs.

Imprinting sure makes a difference doesn't it? I swear foals could hurt themselves in a padded stall.

That is so, so sad. Some idiot always has to complain about something that makes everybody else happy, doesn't matter that out of 100 people, 99 want the cat. The 1 jerk always seems to win. Why is that?

That's one of the reasons I won't buy and sell horses. You never know what becomes of them. I'd love to earn some money in the horse business but other than selling them, I don't know what else I could do.

Well it looks like this might be about it.

Compare this one to the rock pile I posted earlier.

It's hard for me... I know horses are bought and sold into good homes all the time. Especially in this day and age where horses are the the pets and hobbies of people, not the work horses used as a tool until they are broken down. They still get broken down sometimes, but really, over the long life of a horse, their best job sometimes changes... and they might have more good homes than not. They start out life green and needing a person who is highly skilled, and they get older more experienced and would then be best for a beginner... and then later, they can teach children to ride but nothing harder. So what do we do? I would consider leases on mine.... but I can't ever cut ties... that is why I'll be reluctant to ever breed one.

I had a very hard time selling Juma but since he bucked me off so badly, I knew I had to do it. I'm still in touch with the owner, I have Juma's AQHA number so I can watch where he goes and I told the current owner that if anything happens to him and he's not usable anymore, I would buy him back. I hope I can keep an eye on him and ensure that he has a good life.

I was gonna ask about Who's Who Juma (L) and Bud (R), because I don't remember you talking about them. So you don't have Juma now? That "Bud" sure is pretty, built like a Mack Truck. What's his story?

Juma is now with a professional barrel horse trainer in Oklahoma, a guy named Lance Graves. I'll send you a link to Juma's for sale picture. It's my understanding that one of the guys that works for Lance is riding Juma and really likes him so maybe he'll end up with that guy. Bud is an Impressive bred paint and is HYPP positive, but with no symptoms so far and he's about 16 years old. The broken navicular bone in his left front is a problem, though. He must have been running and playing and landed on the foot just right to break the bone. He is a big, heavy horse and that didn't help. He's just a pasture ornament now. Honestly, you can't tell there's anything wrong with him, he doesn't limp or anything, but it makes me nervous to ride him with that injury.

Scroll down to 4 year olds and you'll see Juma.
