The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Wounds like that often don't scar which is nice, foals seem to be accidents waiting to happen.

All puncture wounds you want to leave open, not suture because they need to heal from the inside out. You do need to keep them open, as you did with scrubbing and flushing, otherwise the top heals and infection often developes inside.

Don't you want to go for a walk in it? Drive around and look at the pretty trees? Take pictures of the horses playing in it? That's what I want to do.

You know... last year, I found it to be a real pain... we had a LOT, right when I was preparing to go to florida and I had to move the horses to Bob's, and it wouldn't go away. It stayed, and stayed, and we had a foot. Ended up having to trailer them on bad roads and it tripled my stress of moving them there. But I this year, I miss it in it's absence. It ain't natural going without it.

It's kind of worrying me. I never even thought to get Belle's blanket from Jenny, and in the arena she has no protection. The others, can go in stalls if they choose. If this keeps up I'll probably put her in the stall I have that I can lock her in, but then I have to worry about Rusty picking at her over the gate. Down on her pasture she had woods to get in for protection. Right now they are all out in it. I took some more pictures, they're loading. Decisions, Decisions.???

Snow has a way of requiring that everything change at it's will.

Well it's not a cut but 2 punctures. One very small. They are below her right eye where it's mostly skin and little hair. Scarring won't be an issue. I have seen and treated cuts a lot bigger on these two but it's just the location that concerns me. It bled because she had dried blood going down her face and recent enough that with cleaning she freshly oozed a little. It's a little puffy but trauma and not infection like. I guess I was concerned that the trainer called me out though. I'll take a picture this evening. It didn't seem right this morning. If I called a family member in and they brought a camera I would be thinking "trouble". Anyway we cleaned it and applied a little horse eye ointment still left in a tube and I went by my vet and picked up another . He sold me a tetanus too. She got one with her shots about 3 months ago but he wants me to give her a booster.

Mine wouldn't.... they'd think "is there any part of our life you don't broadcast to the internet?"
