The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Goodness gracious, you must have been terrified! When Tuffy went ballistic on Winnie, I was so stuned that I just had to stand there and watch for a minute, like "this can't be happening!" It was series.

I don't know what that is, but my money says that is NOT your dog.

It's surprising but our cat actually does ok with baths. We just can't stand looking at him during it.

Did somebody cross a Chinese Crested Hairless with a Harlequin Great Dane?

There's no accounting for taste, as the lady said when she kissed the cow . . .

Nope, I didn't really believe you on the first one, but I was going to give you the benefit of the doubt (even though the pic address says "UglyDog")

Now I KNOW you're just trolling pix off the internet. I've seen that wet Persian before, and it's not your cat.

"Did somebody cross a Chinese Crested Hairless with a Harlequin Great Dane?"

I think that was a result of the daddy dog staying out too late at the doggie bar and taking home what ever was left at 2:00 AM. When that happens it usually ain't pretty.

The swallow may fly south with the sun or the house martin or the plover may seek warmer climes in winter, yet these are not strangers to our land?

Thanks Hair for clearing up my muddled up instructions. I saved them this time so I can just copy them if we ever need them and you're out diggin' ditches or something.

Here's some more pictures for ya...

These are of Hope. She went through some really strange color changes that I'd never seen before, from the time she was born until now, and I'm sure she'll change some more when she sheds out this spring.

Here she is when she was born. Basically black, but with lots of milky coloring. I really did think she was just going to be a plain ol' black horse...

This one was taken when she was 2mths old. Her black baby hair turned almost sorrel and her mane did too, sunburn I guess. You can see some of it still hanging on in this picture. Her roan had come in, but her face was the weird part, especially around her eyes. She looks like some kind of African Wildebeast or something...

Now she looks like this....

Very strange...

I wouldn't have predicted that change of color, no! The shedding out of the baby hair period is a rough time for many hopeful owners... they can become pretty funny looking during that time if they are doing a color change.
