The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

It was sure funny, the way that horse was so quiet one minute then going nuts-o the next. Wonder what would have happened if he HADN'T of imprinted him?

I can't remember. I know one of the pair of geldings is named Dan and the other one is Bob or Bud or something. I don't remember if he named the mare or not. He's not big on naming his animals. I guess they know him and he knows them and they don't need names amongst themselves. ;o)

I can see that they would look legless against a white background. It appears that most horses with this pattern are deaf.

Splashed Whites are 'lumped' in with overos. They typically have continuous white, from the legs up to somewhere on the midline of the body, and have 1/2 bald to bald faces, and blue eyes. A key to this pattern is the white found on the tail... not typical for the other overo patterns. They are relatively rare, and most horses tested for hearing with this pattern are found to be deaf. There may be some sabino patterns that mimic this pattern. The deafness appears to be geneticly linked, but these horse go on to productive lives with a modified (non verbal) training program. "Gunner" shown below is a champion reining horse

I still don't. I'm fostering again. I get "him" today. He was bought for another nursing home . Someone complained and he has to find a new home fast. I need a mouser. If he fits in he'll stay. If not I'll find him a place where he will be appreciated. He's supposed to be a big sucker and got into trouble because he likes computers. Evidently the business office wasn't amused.:')
