The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I can't answer that. I haven't made any money on horses in twenty years.

She does have a little bit of mottled skin on her nose, but difficult to tell if that is just paint markings.

The feet are a giveaway though Cindy.... striped hooves on a solid leg is suspect... I think Duchess is right.

I really think she might be an appaloosa or part appaloosa outcrop. Lift up her tail and check her udder - if the skin is mottled she probably is. And if she's smarter than the rest of the horses and harder to get along with, she definately is. :)

On a white leg, she should have a white foot, unless it was just a minimal sock where some dark went to the coronet band.

What do you mean by mottled? In my area that's blue:'( She's very smart but easy going but has her days like most women:')

Heh... well, it means she's not likely all Paint or ever registered.

In body type, she looks the type. But I think she's a paint/appy mutt ;~D

If it's pink and black where there is no hair color instead of solid black.

Sure... Mutts is great horses ;~D. How much of her back foot color there is dirt? Is one of them all white, or are they all striped?

Not mutt - horse with character. You'll love her. And she might not be a cross, just an outcrop. Occasionally, Appaloosas and Quarter Horses both have a foal with high white.

Dirt on Sarah Lee? I don't think so:') Seriously, she doesn't have any white feet. They all have the gold sripes .

I like how high the shoulder gusset goes on SL's blanket. Bay's start's lower and farther behind the point of the shoulder. It's not in the right place really for ease of movement.

That's good actually then because if she's mixed it would reduce genetic risks from breeding with an overo, wouldn't it?

It certainly would. I'm going to find a picture of Mighty Bright or Mighty Brights Brother and will be right back. They were real close to looking paint.
