The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

Posted on 12/30/2004 7:01:16 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Would they have them at Wal-Mart? I could go by on my way home from work.

It's hard to describe well, but it's sounding like that to me. Mares go from looking like a beach ball to flat sided (although it's not really flat sided, just a big difference) And the bottom line, front to back goes from gently rounded to almost pointed. There may be a big milk vein in the belly, running back to the udder.

LOL...I'll bet while you've been in here trying to tell us what she looks like she's out there having it:)

Well we can hope anyway.

RoS has commented a couple of times today that Sugar looks narrower. That could very well be the case.

Okay, if she's narrower, the baby has dropped. Thank you. Now, books say she'll foal in two weeks. I'd bet on tonight or tomorrow.

I've been told the source of all evil is somewhere in the back of WalMart by the TVs.

It may be that what happened before is that she started to foal and the baby was in the wrong position. Some mares will stop and just walk around, to get the baby to drop back and reposition. 'Course it could also be that she didn't start to foal previously, I just jumped to conclusions.

Hi Hair!

I'm catching up again so pardon my being late and off topic. I think I've heard of another coat pattern called "sabino". I'm not exactly sure what it is but I think it has to do with the edges of the pattern being erratic instead of smooth. Let me know if you find such a thing and what it is.

she had that happen, changed shape and went to a belly pointing down. Now she has this kind of flat rounded "tire" shape underneath. Its like the legs are right at the bottom wrapped round her sides? So difficult to describe. I had hoped dj would do better!

You're doing an earnest job of trying to explain, it's just gonna be easier to see in pictures... And hopefully that can happen tonight!
