Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
That will be a nice break. And now you'll be able to relax because the vet will have been out already to look at her.
Have a good time. Are you switching to Eddie's saddle?
I'm going to try it but I'm using my stirrups. He hasn't adjusted his for me yet. Shoot. I forgot he said he was coming out. Oh well. I'll work it out.
If he says she is going to foal now though.......instead of leavin, i hope someone can haul that mountain cabin to me! LOL
I do appreciate all your advice. One thing that it said on that link was that she would be in pain. Well shes uncomfortable, but i dont think shes in pain.
She did go to kick the farrier when he went to touch her udder............which is unheard of for her! Guess its tender!
I want to try something. The kid that rides our horses told me that Sarah Lee really good at getting in postion to open gates and knows what to do. I probably won't have time today but I want to see what he was talking about.
Have fun! I will certainly be watching her closely. I am seconds away from my balcony where i can see her well from and i am up and down like a yo-yo. If I think trouble is here, my vet will be the first to know. I have already put him on my cell phone!
I'll post details of his visit on here tommorow.
I spoke to my trainer today and he is selling of all of his horses, trailer and equipment and we got talking about bareback riding. He is letting me have a good bareback pad that he has for $10! He is also bringing a good halter for one of the foals! He has become a really good friend of ours and came out for just a friendly visit today!
A hundred years ago when I was learning to ride, my dad used to always tell me "think the horse through it" about gates, obstacles, water, etc. I still do that, having realized that part of it is that as I am thinking my horse through the steps we need to take, I am unconsciously giving the right cues. LOL don't know but it might work for you. It's possible she's been ridden through gates too and does know exactly what to do.
Maybe you can get some good buys:') Just talked to my husband. He told to go ahead because he's going to go home and take a nap first. He has the state in the building and has been here since 6 this morning. Just routine stuff but very stressful. I know riding would make him feel better but he's tired. Talk to yall later.
Her udder will be very painful if it's full, she'll be most uncomfortable when the foal first tries to nurse. With a little luck, she'll foal before you leave :)
I'm back, could only make an hour on Harley:)
Rusty had a few marks, nothing like Harley tho. Even Rock had a few, so I guess he could be the culprit reaching over the hot wire. I've just never had one turn up with this many bits. He has alot.

we had about 8 full grown geldngs on the back 23 acres once, belonged to a neighbor and the fence that runs with Ligtnings field nearly got torn down with them fighting over it! Scary to watch, when you cant do a thing!Fortunatly ours only got a few cuts and scrapes and the geldings were taken out of that field.
I am going to try and explain her shape again. After checking on her, if you lok from the back, her belly looks like a w. Standing at the side, you see her natural low curve of her belly going along and then underneath that it looks like someone has stuck a tire and shes grown hair over it. So she has two curves, one bulked out that looks like a tire.
It may be a muscle problem, and she seemed to be pretty happy just now, her udder is pretty full and her parts look stretched and her tail end ready. She has dips in fromt of her hips, dips on top of her back end and dips at her back end. She is also rubbing her back end on the workshop side.
Did you ever get to see the photo of the white horse that hair of the dog posted?
Gee... and I thought you didn't look a day over 96 ;~D
Welcome back.... who wore out? you or Harley?
Me:). Harley was fine. I'm really having some trouble with muscle cramps in my back.
I did ride Rusty for and hour and a half, and Harley for an hour. But I sure need to do better then that.

Today I think I'm 157 at least :) I've been cleaning out the walk in pantry. Cases of cans weigh a lot!
Yeah, I don't like to see them picking at each other over fence. Out back tho, where these guys are doing it, if they are doing it over the fence, that fence has no posts, it's just one strand of hot wire hooked to trees. That's not so bad when there is no T post.
